Privacy Policy
Last updated: September 6, 2026 · Applies to LitLog and kidspiredcreations.com
1. Who we are
LitLog is made by The Kidspired Creations LLC, Mansfield, Texas, United States ("we", "us"). Questions about this policy go to founders@kidspiredcreations.com.
2. Information we collect
Parent account
- Email address and password, handled by Google Firebase Authentication (we never see your password).
- Your name, and the email address of a second parent if you choose to link one.
Child profiles
- First and last name, and any avatar or nickname you set.
- Reading goals, points balance, rewards and wishlist items you or your child create.
Reading activity
- Books added to the library, including titles, authors, ISBNs and cover images.
- Reading sessions: date, duration, pages, and any notes your child adds.
Device and technical data
- Device model, operating system version and app version, used for support and crash triage.
- A push notification token, if you allow notifications, so we can send reminders.
- Basic request logs (timestamps, error codes) from our servers.
Camera and microphone
LitLog asks for camera access only to scan a book's barcode. It asks for microphone access only for read-aloud sessions, where the app follows along with your child's reading to highlight words and pause the timer during silence.
Speech is processed on the device to match the words on the page. We do not record reading sessions, we do not store audio, and audio is not uploaded to our servers or sent to any third party. What is saved from a session is the reading data itself — book, minutes, pages and progress. Read-aloud is optional; the timer works without the microphone.
3. How we use information
- To run the app: keep the reading log, calculate goals, points and rewards.
- To sync a family across devices and between linked parents.
- To send the notifications you have opted into, such as reading reminders.
- To answer support requests and fix bugs.
- To meet legal obligations.
We do not build advertising profiles, and we do not show behaviourally targeted ads to children.
4. Children's privacy
LitLog is designed for families and is intended to be set up and managed by a parent or legal guardian. Children do not create accounts, and we do not knowingly collect personal information directly from a child without parental consent, consistent with the U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA).
A parent can review, correct or delete a child's profile and all of its reading data at any time from the app, or by writing to founders@kidspiredcreations.com. We will honour a verified request without requiring you to keep using the app.
5. Who we share it with
We do not sell personal information. We share only with service providers that help us run LitLog:
- Google Firebase — account authentication and push notification delivery.
- Amazon Web Services — application servers and database storage, hosted in the United States.
- Google Books and Open Library — looked up by ISBN or title to fetch book details and covers. These lookups contain the book you searched for, not your child's name or account.
We may also disclose information if required by law, or as part of a business transfer, in which case we will tell you first.
6. How long we keep it
We keep your account and reading history for as long as your account is active. Delete a child profile and its data is removed; delete your account and we remove the family's personal data from our production systems within 30 days, except where we must retain records by law. Backups age out on their normal rotation.
7. Security
Traffic between the app and our servers is encrypted in transit. Data at rest is stored in access-controlled AWS services, and access is limited to people who need it to operate the service. No system is perfect, but we treat children's reading data as data worth protecting.
8. Your choices
- Turn notifications off in your device settings at any time.
- Edit or delete any child profile, book or session from inside the app.
- Request a copy of your family's data, or its deletion, by emailing us.
- Depending on where you live, you may have additional rights under laws such as the Texas Data Privacy and Security Act, the CCPA or the GDPR. Write to us and we will apply them.
9. Changes to this policy
If we change this policy we will update the date at the top, and for material changes we will notify you in the app or by email before the change takes effect.
